Utopia Golf Products is a young company headquartered in the tiny Texas town of Utopia (population: 300). The company's coming-out party took place at the PGA Fall Expo in early September in Las Vegas, where its uniquely designed putters garnered a "Best New Product" award.

Utopia's first putters to market are the TXR I and TXR II. All putters are designed, milled, hand-assembled, painted and polished in tiny Utopia, and with company founders and designers Scott Saunders and Michael Hillis checking them out.

The company describes the TXR 1 as a "cavity-back blade" and the TXR II as a "heel-shafted cavity-back mallet."

So what's unique about the design? That ridge you can see in the photo above of the TXR 1. That ridge - a raised, thin leading edge - is what strikes the ball, and the ridge is positioned to strike the ball just above the ball's equator. The intent is provide the ball with immediate forward roll, rather than the backspin that most traditional putters (which have a few degrees of loft) start the ball with. An immediate forward roll, the company says, eliminates skipping and skidding, helping the ball stay online.

What makes the most efficient golf training tool?

I believe that the fairest answer to that question is that it must be the sort of golf training aid that has the best impact on your golf game. It would be a training tool that produces the best results in terms of improvement in your golf game over the shortest period of time.

There are many good training tools out there. There are aids that help you with your full swing, your putting, short game, swing plane, power, fitness, flexibility, setup, etc. Each of them have a purpose in helping a person's game and it depends on the individuals game in deciding which one to purchase and use. Some want more power, some want to work on their setup, others want to improve their putting.
So to answer the question, what would be the best training aid out there it would depend on the individual and what area they need the most improvement. If someone is struggling with their putting then a putting training would be their best bet. If someone lacked power then they would want a weighted swing club. A problem with this is as you know a person's game will change over time. For a month their putting is the part of their game suffering and then their setup goes and their putting improves. Then they might want to purchase something that helps their setup. You can see the issue here. The training aids out there today work for only one part of your game.
I had a half dozen different training aids and it was too much to take them all with me when I went to the course. This is where the idea of the Swinkey came to me.

Rookie MINA HARIGAE was not only the 2009 Player of the Year and the Rookie of the Year, but she might have also been the surprise player of the year. Not that anyone thought the Californian couldnât play â just that at age 19, when she emerged as the winner of back-to-back titles at the Ladies Titan Tire Challenge in Iowa, and at the Tourâs only 72-hole major championship, the Michelob ULTRA Duramed FUTURES Players Championship in Decatur, Ill., and even then, adding a third season title at the Falls Auto Group Classic in Kentucky, Harigae was starting to look like a young pro with a bright, bright future and ice water in her veins.

By seasonâs end on Sunday last week, Harigae had earned $88,386 in 16 events, in addition, had also earned honors as Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year.

âLast year, I would have never thought Iâd be in this position,â said Harigae. âI feel like I grew as a player and a person on the Duramed FUTURES Tour. My main goal was to earn my full [LPGA] card, but getting Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year was like getting double icing on the cake.â

A Class A member of both the LPGA and PGA, Hendersonâs post at the T&CP has involved the day-to-day operations of the association, including its educational programs, tournament offerings, certification and testing. Prior to heading up the T&CP, she served for seven years as director of golf and general manager at LPGA International Golf Course â home course of the LPGA. At LPGA International, she planned, directed and supervised all aspects of daily operations, including management of the entire golf complex, clubhouse operations, food and beverage, golf course maintenance, marketing and public relations.

Henderson came to LPGA International after eight years at Orange Lake Resort and Country Club in Kissimmee, Fla., where she was named as the 1998 Director of the Year. She was honored as the T&CPâs National LPGA Professional of the Year in 2001, and followed up in 2003 and 2006, respectively, with Player of the Year honors for the LPGA Southeast Section.

A graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where she played on the womenâs golf team, Henderson is a two-time U.S. Womenâs Open Championship participant, a former member of the FUTURES Golf Tour, and a winner of 300 amateur tournaments.

A native of Tacoma, Washington, Brian moved to Orlando in 1985 after graduating from Ohio State with All-American Honors. Over the next seven years, he recorded a top PGA Tour finish of 2nd at the 1988 Southern Farm Bureau Classic as well as six top 25 finishes on the Nationwide Tour. He also compiled top ten finishes in eleven different countries while competing internationally. He participated in the 1995 US Open and finished 3rd in the 2001 Callaway Pebble Beach Invitational.

Brian was voted by his peers to be a Golf Magazine Top 100 Golf Instructor in 2004 and has repeated this honor in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 and 2009.

Top 100 Instructors are the Elite Instructors as voted by the 28,000+ members of the PGA.

Brian joined the Leadbetter Academy in 1993 and eventually became the Director of Instruction from 1997-2001.

In January 2002, he opened the Brian Mogg Performance Center at Keene's Pointe. This center focuses on developing the golfers' swing and all aspects of their short game.

Keene's Pointe is a Jack Nicklaus Signature facility located in Southwest Orlando.

Mark Blackburn originally arrived in America from London, England, in 1994 on a college golf scholarship. After two years of playing college golf at The University of Mobile he was recruited to play golf for The University of Southern Mississippi. A multiple Lettermen and Team Captain, Mark received a BS in Exercise Science and Coaching in 1998. Upon completing his senior season Mark began a professional playing career. After 3 years of on the Hooters Tour with inconsistency and injury, it was obvious game improvement was essential to reach the PGA Tour.

What prevailed was the microscopic study of the golf swing, golfâs biomechanics and the game itself. Continual research and discovery produced dramatic results in his performance. Markâs game improvement saw him as an alternate in the 2002 US Open at Bethpage Park, followed by victories in the Dixie Section PGA.

Reflections on Moe Norman

Tim OÂConnorÂs bestseller, The Feeling of Greatness: The Moe Norman Story, documents the bittersweet life of Moe Norman, one of the golfÂs most engaging characters, from his working-class roots in Kitchener, Ontario to his recognition as one of the worldÂs greatest ball-strikers.

Norman has long been a nearly mythical figure among professionals around the world. In 1980 while still a college player, Paul Azinger spotted Norman on a Florida driving range.

"He started ripping these drivers right off the ground at the 250-yard marker, and he never hit one more than 10 yards to either side of it, and he hit at least 50. It was an incredible sight. When he hit irons, he was calling how many times you would see it bounce after he hit it - sometimes before he hit it - and heÂd do it. It was unbelievable."

In January 2005, Tiger Woods told Golf DigestÂs Jamie Diaz that only two golfers in history "owned their swing": Moe Norman and Ben Hogan.

Born and raised in Canton, Ohio. I have been a Golf Professional for over 12 years working at Private Country Clubs across Northeast Ohio. I have devoted my teaching career towards developing our juniors into life-long players of this game. I work with children as young as five years old. In 2003, Jaacob Bowden was living in Kansas City working as a computer engineer in the corporate world. Final Rounds, also received the International Network of Golf's industry honors award for Best Golf Book of 1996. Final Rounds is currently in the process of being produced as a feature film and Faithful Travelers has been produced as a television movie. Mr. Dodson's book, A Golfer's Life - the autobiography of Arnold Palmer - was a New York Times bestseller. Early roll means less deflection and a straighter line.
By gripping the back of the ball and lifting it forward on impact, the C-Grooves of a Yes putter create almost instant stabilization, causing the ball to roll forward much sooner than any other putter. In fact, as much as six times sooner.
The above illustration is a detailed summary of multiple 20â test putts as conducted by an independent testing firm. Using a putting robot and a 100-frame-per-second video camera, they were able to show how the C-Groove putter dramatically and consistently outperforms the putters of major golf companies.
Balls struck with the Yes! C-Grooves invariably achieved forward roll within 3â to 4â while balls struck by competitive putters repeatedly skidded, skipped and spun before settling into forward roll in approximately 18 inches.

Throughout Tina Mickelson's life she has had a love for the game of golf. Her passion can be traced back to her early childhood when she and her brother, professional golfer Phil Mickelson, began using golf clubs as soon as they could walk.
Shortly after graduating from the University of San Diego in 1991 with a major in Communications and a minor in Business, Tina opted to go right to work to earn her PGA membership and dedicated her life to helping others improve their golf games and promoting the great game of golf. She has been a teaching professional since 1991 and has been a PGA Class "A" Member since 1994.

Tina is currently the Ambassador for Women's Golf at The Santaluz Club in San Diego, CA. Her role includes promoting the game of golf to existing members, both experienced players as well as beginners. This is done through giving clinics, playing lessons, rules seminars, and hosting a variety of different specialty events. The goal of the club is to grow and strengthen women's golf through making golf more available to women and by eliminating the intimidation women feel when they are new to the game. Her personal goal is to accomplish this not just at The Santaluz Club, but in the golf world as a whole.

Tina is currently the Ambassador for Women's Golf for Callaway Golf. The goal of Callaway Golf is to make the game of golf more enjoyable for women. She represents Callaway at sponsored events and clinics for women. She is working together with Callaway to help inspire women to develop their own passion for the game, and to understand the many benefits the great game of golf has to offer.

Tina's passion for teaching the game drives her to reach as large of an audience as possible through her teaching philosophies and her personable approach to golf. Throughout her career, Tina has reached her audience through many different outlets including books, newspaper columns, magazine articles, television, corporate outings, and speaking events. The game of golf can also provide insight into one's life and Tina incorporates this philosophy into her teaching.

Tina has been seen on the Golf Channel, involved with various programs including Golf Channel Academy, Academy Live, Your Game Night, and Drive, Chip, & Putt.

Tina has also worked as an on course commentator for the Golf Channel on the Champions Tour, as well as for CBS Sports covering the LPGA Tour.

From July 2000 until June 2008, Tina authored "Professional Golf Tips with Tina Mickelson," a syndicated column that provided weekly golf tips to newspapers, periodicals, and websites across the world. Tina writes her tips so they can be understood by a large audience spanning all skill levels. As a result of the syndicate closing down in 2008, Tina started to seek out alternate ways to deliver her professional golf tips. That is when she discovered and decided to partner with Youreeeka.

A golf enthusiast and cerebral palsy patient describes his year of traveling with the PGA tour at the sides of many of his professional heroes, a journey marked by his walks through each of the courses on which the golfers played, his witness to tournament events, and an array of unique physical challenges.

D.J. Gregory fell in love with golf at the age of twelve, when he first began watching the game on television and attending local tournaments with his dad. But unlike many other golf fans, D.J. never dreamed of playing professionally. He never thought of becoming a ranked amateur, or even a caddie.

When D.J. was an infant, doctors told his parents that he would probably spend his life in a wheelchair because of his cerebral palsy. But that didn't keep D.J. from trying to beat the odds, enduring five surgeries, learning to walk with a cane, and eventually earning college degrees in sports management. Golf had always remained D.J.'s passion, and in 2008, he decided to make a dream come true -- to travel the country and walk with a different player at each event on the PGA Tour.

From the first event on the island of Maui, through the season-ending tournament at Disney World, D.J. lived out a sports fantasy unlike any other. Every week of the tour, he traveled to a tournament where he walked every round with the greatest golfers in the world: Boo Weekley, an affable country boy who went on to be the hero of the Ryder Cup...Davis Love III, whose twentieth career win earned him a lifetime card in the PGA...and Kenny Perry, the forty-eight-year-old veteran who, like the last days of a bright nova, made his final professional moments in 2008 the hottest and most brilliant of his career.

The Annika Academy is a 5,000 square foot training facility in Reunion Florida that features a ringed private chipping and putting green that serves as the centerpiece of the academy. Students will sharpen their skills on Reunions's three Signature golf courses designed by golf legends Tom Watson, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus.

Small class sizes of seven to nine people per class will afford students an unprecendented level of personalized attention not often found today in golf clinics and schools. Sorenstam's long time golf coach Henri Reis, will be the lead instructor at the facility. When Reis first began coaching Annika in 1987, she found great value in the methods he employed to translate the complexities of golf into simple language. It is her aim to have all academy students benefit form his uniques view of the game. As Annika's sucess on the course has been due in large part to being in excellent physical condition, much of the training at the academy will focus not only on the golf swing, but on athletic training- including cardio and core-strengthening techniques. The philosophies of Annika's personal trainer, Kai Fusser, will lie at the foundation of her curriculum. The German - born Fusser is and IFPA certified personal trainer and sports nutritionist with several years of experience working with professional athletes. He began working with Annika in 2001 and his program is featured in Annika's latest book, Golf Annika's Way.

Charlotta Sorenstam serves as the Director of Instruction. Charlotta was a member of the Swedish National team for seven years. She captured the 1993 European Team Championship title and won the 1992 Angso Ladies open. In 1993 she competed for the University of Texas and won the NCAA championship title as well as All -American honors.

Charlotta received the 2004 Mary Bea Porter Award from the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association for saving Donna Caponi from choking during the 2003 LPGA Championship.

Jim McLean is the 1994 PGA National Teacher of the Year, owner of the Jim McLean Golf Schools which include: Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami, Florida, PGA WEST in La Quinta, California, La Quinta Resort in La Quinta, California, and Grand Traverse Resort in Traverse City, Michigan.

Jimmy Ballard, Pioneer of Connection. No instructor in the game of golf has ever resurrected more champion golf swings than Jimmy Ballard. Residing a the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida, the founding "Pioneer of Connection in the golf swing, Jimmy Ballard continues as one of the top golf instructors in the world. In 1988 alone, Ballard's "connection" method stimulated victories in four major international tournaments with the U.S. Open Winner Curtis Strange, (who would add another Open title in '89); Masters Champion Sandy Lyle; British Open victor Seve Ballesteros, and British Amateur champion, Sweden's Christian Harden. A teachers' "Grand Slam" if there ever was one. From top money winners, to PGA / LPGA / SR.PGA champions and record breaking accuracy merits, Ballard has been praised for their successes.

Named by Golf Magazine, the '80's "Teacher of the Decade", Ballard began setting his sights to the future. In '86, he was invited to join the telecast of the British Open at Turnberry for ESPN, returning to television after regular appearances from his highly popular home video instructional series, "The Jimmy Ballard Golf Connection". Ballard, in spreading his gospel, has spoken to most of the PGA Sections around the country. In December of 1996, he was selected as one of the top 4 teachers in the world, to make his presentation to the contingent of PGA members gathered from the United States as well as 23 other countries. He is credited with making the 1996 Tommy Armour PGA Teaching & Coaching Summit a major success.

Swedish superstar Jesper Parnevik, has had continued success after first coming to Ballard with Sweden's national Golf Team in the mid 80's. He credits Jimmy with "teaching him all there is to know!"

The 1997 Junior Champion was Jason Allred, who started working with Jimmy at 15. European Ryder Cup captain, Tony Jacklin improved after seeing Ballard.

As an instructor with more than 40 years of experience, Dean Reinmuth is most recognized for developing his "Swing Shaping System." In 1950, Jim Flick was a scratch golfer in his second year at Wake Forestâand not good enough to make a starting team that included Arnold Palmer and Buddy Worsham. Flick's roommate was his best friend, Gene Scheer; Palmer's was Worsham. One evening, after a home football game against Duke, Scheer and Worsham got impatient waiting for Flick and Palmer and drove without them to a dance in Durham.
Coming home, their car crashed and both perished. Flick and Palmer, feeling their lives were spared and trying to overcome their grief, decided to room together. Thus, Palmer was one of the first major influences on Flick's career.
Flick lettered in basketball and golf, but turned his attention to golf instruction. Although Bill Strausbaugh was an early influence, Bob Toski had a special effect. Toski and Flick developed the Golf Digest Schools from 1972-'90. Flick also spent 20 years as director of instruction at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, where he helped Tom Lehman go from a struggling Hogan Tour player to the 1996 British Open champion. In 1990, Flick worked with Jack Nicklaus at The Tradition tournament. Jack won the event, and Flick has been his coach ever since.

Casey Martin was born in Eugene, Oregon and still resides there. Educated at Stanford University,and briefly a teammate of Tiger Woods, Casey was three times all Pac-10 and also a member of the University's NCAA Championship team in 1994. He won the 1993 Sahalee Players Championship, and after turning professional in 1995 Casey competed in several PGA and Nationwide tour events.

While pursuing his professional golf career Casey came to national prominence in the late 90's by suing the PGA of America to allow him permission to use a golf cart while playing. Suffering from birth with a defect in his leg know as Klippel Trenaunay Weber syndrome, Martin feels the daily effect of this rare circulatory disorder that withered his right leg to the point that may eventually force him to face amputation. Although Casey won his lower federal court decision to utilize a cart in competition, many PGA professionals took opposites sides of the decision and the debate still exists as to the extent that "disabilities" should be consisted and accommodated on the professional golf tour. An interesting irony to this circumstance exists since many Senior or Champion PGA tour players exercise the option to compete while utilizing carts on the "Senior Tour." In spite of the controversy, Casey maintained a positive attitude and has been described by many as honoring the game and facing his circumstance with both "courage" and "dignity".

Dana Rader grew up playing golf at Mimosa Hills Country Club in Morganton, NC, knowing the game would become an important part of her life. She was good enough to make the menâs golf team at Pfeiffer University, had the skills to make a run at the LPGA tour but she found that her real love for the game centered on teaching.

The Dana Rader Golf School at the Ballantyne Resort in Charlotte is a testimony to 25 years of hard work and a plan that has resulted in the school becoming one of the premier facilities in the country.

She joined Myers Park Country Club in 1980 as an assistant professional, achieving LPGA Class A status in 1984. A group at Myers Park sponsored her run on the LPGA Tour but she says, âI competed for a while but found out I wouldnât be able to make a living at that. It just wasnât my heart and passion.â

Individually, Dana has been named as one of the Top 100 Teachers in the U.S. by Golf Magazine and as one of the Top 50 Teachers in the U.S. by Golf Golf Digest magazine.

In 1990, she was honored by the LPGA as its National Teacher of the Year. A few years later, in 2003, Dana achieved LPGA Master Professional status. In, 2007, she was named by Golf Magazine to its prestigious list of the Top 50 Teachers in America. Rick Newell launched the syndication of his golf comic strip called Life in the Trap in January 2005 and thanks to golf publications around the world it has now grown to over 2 million readers per month. Affectionately known as the "Little Pro," Eddie Merrins has long been revered as a golf guru. For nearly 40 years Eddie has lived and breathed the game and the way of life of golf as Head Professional at the Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles. At the Bel-Air Country Club the locker nameplates read like an Oscar party guest list; Tom Cruise, Dennis Quaid, James Woods, Richard Crenna, Jack Wagner and James Garner, are just a few.

The Little Pro has instructed some of the biggest names in entertainment, as well as some of the highest-level professional golfers. Merrins has amassed almost 60 years of knowledge, from his years as a junior, amateur and college golfer to his career as a professional tour player, instructor, head professional and NCAA coach.

Teaching means more to me than any tournament because I've helped that person to help himself or herself," Merrins said. "Playing is for personal satisfaction, but teaching is a labor of love."

While beginning his teaching career, Merrins also had the insight that would lead him to develop his "swing the handle" philosophy that became his most lasting contribution to golf instruction.

Asked to explain how exactly "swing the handle" works, Merrins told a story about the 1978 British Open at St. Andrews. He was on the practice tee with Tom Kite, and Jack Nicklaus approached. They exchanged pleasantries and then Jack got right to the point. He looked at me and said, 'You believe in swing the handle, don't you? Explain it to me,'" Merrins remembered. "Out of the blue, a mental image came to me. I said, 'Jack, you're a tennis player. Swing the handle means the golf swing is just like a two-armed tennis stroke.'"

Merrins said Nicklaus took it all in with a completely neutral look and went back to his bucket of balls,"and then, don't you know, he won the tournament," Merrins said. "I'm not saying it had anything to do with me, but you never know ...

David Leadbetter is a leading golf instructor, originally from Worthing in England.
